Inaugural Al-Noor Boat Race Canada Raises $372,000
The initiative generated $372,518 in total charitable contributions through the support of 8,777 individual donors across 25 fundraising teams and partner projects, directing critical aid to causes including global emergency relief and orphan care.
Paddlers, supporters, and humanitarian organizations gathered at the Welland International Flatwater Centre on Saturday, August 1, 2026, for the inaugural Al-Noor Annual Boat Race Canada.
Marking the expansion of the popular UK-founded charity challenge to Canadian waters, the event brought together competitive dragon boat teams and community members for a day of sporting competition and fundraising.

Head-to-Head Heats on the Water
Starting at 9:00 AM, crews lined up in designated flatwater lanes for series of head-to-head dragon boat heats.
Paddlers competed in dedicated divisions, with separate boat designations maintained for men’s and women’s teams.
Participating organizations and community crews included Human Concern International (HCI), Islamic Relief Canada, Penny Appeal Canada, MAA Dragons, Team Deen, Team Wednesday, Human Appeal, and the Lighthouse Foundation.
The day concluded with an afternoon awards ceremony where top-performing crews across divisions—including the Ladies’ Division champions—were recognized with division trophies, medals, and celebratory plaques.
Festival Grounds and Community Gathering
Off the water, the Welland International Flatwater Centre grounds functioned as a cultural hub featuring vendor booths, organization tents, and public gathering spaces.
Attendees were offered food from local culinary partners, including Masrawy Kitchen and The Local.
To accommodate participants throughout the day, designated spaces were set aside for communal prayers (Salah), allowing attendees to balance the competitive schedule with shared spiritual reflection.
A Continuing Tradition
Following the successful execution of the inaugural Canadian race, organizers confirmed that the Al-Noor Boat Race will return to the Welland International Flatwater Centre in Summer 2027.
