On Friday, January 9, 2026, the Eternal Virtue (EV) team officially opened its latest community fridge at Greenbriar Middle School in Brampton, Ontario, in collaboration with Road to Zero Waste—an organization also working to reduce waste and fight food insecurity.
The new fridge will help strengthen local support systems by increasing access to food in a way that is barrier-free, discreet, and community-powered.
Eternal Virtue is a Canadian registered charity that officially launched in May 2025.
The organization was formed through a natural progression after more than a decade of hands-on community service—most notably through its flagship Rabi al-Awwal Soup Kitchen & Meal Delivery Service, operating out of different mosques in the Greater Toronto Area.
Distinct from many charitable organizations that focus primarily on international relief, Eternal Virtue is intentionally dedicated to domestic Canadian impact—programs that directly benefit Canadians and strengthen local communities.
The charity’s leadership describes its mission as building “ongoing benefit” initiatives: projects that continue delivering value long after the initial act of giving.
This philosophy is reflected in its expanding community fridge campaign, which supports neighbourhood food access through practical, locally rooted solutions that remove barriers and preserve dignity.
To date, Eternal Virtue has sponsored two fridges at the North York Women’s Shelter, one community fridge in Toronto’s Kensington Market, and the most recent installation at Greenbriar Middle School.

Each location reflects a deliberate strategy: identifying areas where the need is real, where partners are committed, and where the broader community is capable of sustaining the fridge over time.
Rather than relying on complex screening or intake processes, community fridges offer a simple and empowering model—food access without registration, paperwork, or stigma.
“Our Prophet ﷺ lived next to what we would recognize today, a homeless shelter,” said Imraan Assim, Executive Director of Eternal Virtue.
“Whenever gifts were sent to him, he would distribute and share them with his neighbours before partaking.” This Prophetic ethos of neighbourly responsibility and compassion continues to shape EV’s approach to serving vulnerable Canadians.
For EV’s directors, community fridges represent both meaningful impact and community transformation.
“We’re always looking for ‘high impact’ charitable causes that offer repeatable and ongoing benefit to the community,” said Siddiq Rustam, Founding Director.
“After we’ve installed the fridge, we get to see the real magic happen: the community comes together to sustain the fridge for their neighbours in need.”
With 2026 plans to expand across Canada—including another fridge planned in Nova Scotia within the coming month—Eternal Virtue sees community fridges as a cornerstone initiative: simple in concept, powerful in impact, and sustained by everyday compassion.
