Woman charged in suspected hate-motivated assault on Hijab-wearing victim in North York
Toronto Police have laid charges against a woman following an alleged hate-motivated assault on a Muslim woman wearing a hijab in the city's North York area.
The incident, which police describe as involving Islamophobic comments, occurred near Finch Avenue West and Weston Road.
According to a news release issued by the Toronto Police Service on Sunday, July 13, 2025, officers responded to a report of an assault in the area.
It is alleged that on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at approximately 2:10 p.m., a woman approached the victim, who was wearing a hijab, and made derogatory Islamophobic remarks.
The verbal altercation reportedly escalated into a physical assault.
Police have not released further details about the nature of the victim's injuries.
Roxanne Ingram, 52, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with assault and breach of probation.
She appeared in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Friday, July 11, 2025.
This investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.
