Reviving the Islamic Spirit Convention Returns to Toronto: A Beacon of Light in a Time of Change

The annual Reviving the Islamic Spirit (RIS) Convention is set to return to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) this December 19-21, 2025.

Known as one of the largest gatherings of Muslims in North America, the three-day event promises a knowledge-infused weekend dedicated to spiritual revival, community building, and finding practical guidance for contemporary life.

For over two decades, RIS has served as a critical platform for North American Muslims, fostering meaningful discussions and strengthening faith.

This year's convention carries an essential mission: to look back at the timeless wisdom of the Prophetic example and apply it directly to the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

The central theme woven through the program centers on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his universal message of compassion and dignity.

The convention opens with a focus on "1500 Years of Mercy," setting the stage for a series of sessions collectively known as the "Seerah Special: Milestones of Mercy."

These sessions will explore pivotal moments in Islamic history—from the dawn of revelation and the Hijra (migration) to the triumph of Badr and the conquest of Makkah—not merely as historical accounts, but as a "Seerah Playbook" offering strategic lessons for modern community challenges and personal growth.

The RIS program places a significant emphasis on addressing the pressing issues facing Muslims today.

Critical Conversations, a key feature of the weekend, will tackle subjects vital to healthy communities and strong families.

Sessions like “Between Principle and Compromise: Integrity in the Age of Integration” and “Garments Unto Each Other: The Prophetic Home of Balance, Compassion, and Love” are designed to provide clear, balanced guidance on maintaining faith-based identity while actively contributing to diverse, modern societies.

Furthermore, the discussion on “Filial Piety: Honoring Parents in the Age of Self” highlights the crucial role of intergenerational wisdom in preserving the family unit.

The convention’s commitment to organizational development and leadership is also evident.

Recognizing the challenges faced by leaders and everyday community members, sessions will explore how to maintain “Unshakeable Faith: Steadfast Belief in an Age of Doubt” and practical ways of “Living the Prophetic Sunnah in Everyday Realms.”

The focus remains on actionable knowledge, encouraging attendees to move beyond abstract spiritual concepts to concrete, meaningful change in their personal lives and in the wider public sphere.

This year’s lineup features a diverse and globally respected roster of scholars and thinkers.

Distinguished speakers scheduled to deliver key addresses include Shaykh Muhammad Ninowy, Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed, Imam Zaid Shakir, Mufti Abdul Wahhab Waheed, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus, Ustadha Dalia Mogahed, Imam Tom Facchine, Imam Khalid Latif and Shaykh Sulaiman Moola, among many others.

The variety of expertise ensures a rich intellectual and spiritual experience, covering theology, jurisprudence, sociology, and practical psychology.

Beyond the lecture halls, RIS is celebrated for its unique atmosphere that encourages connection and collaboration.

The RIS 360 Stage offers a space for creative expression and performance, featuring international and local artists, promoting the cultural vibrancy of the global Muslim community.

The dedicated Youth Program—a platform created for the youth, by the youth—features workshops on topics from coding to storytelling, an "Ask Me Anything" segment with scholars, and competitions designed to nurture the next generation of engaged leaders.

The convention centre is transformed into a dynamic meeting place where dialogue thrives.

The Grand Bazaar, renowned for its bustling marketplace atmosphere, offers a variety of specialized goods and services, reflecting the economic diversity of the community.

Coupled with the RIS Food Court, which showcases halal cuisines from around the world, the environment truly embodies a global Muslim village temporarily transplanted to the heart of Toronto.

RIS 2025 promises not just a retreat from the everyday, but a vital catalyst for spiritual and civic engagement.

It is an annual event that reminds attendees that the spirit of Islam is inherently one of mercy, enlightenment, and enduring relevance, urging all who attend to carry that spirit forward into the year ahead.
