National Orange Khutbah Day Calls Muslim Communities to Stand with Indigenous Peoples

Justice For All Canada and the Canadian Council of Imams are calling on Muslim religious leaders across the country to take part in National Orange Khutbah Day on Friday, September 26.

The initiative, led by Canadian Muslims, is part of a growing interfaith commitment to mark the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

The campaign invites Imams and Khateebs to dedicate their Friday sermon (khutbah) to themes of reconciliation, reflection, and the history of residential schools.

Organizers are encouraging mosques and Muslim communities nationwide to show solidarity with Indigenous peoples and to acknowledge the ongoing legacy of genocide and systemic injustices faced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

Imams who sign up to participate will receive khutbah notes and resources to help frame their sermons.

The campaign builds on a tradition of faith-based solidarity, highlighting the Islamic principles of justice, compassion, and truth.

Hundreds of Imams across the country are expected to join the initiative. Organizers hope the campaign will deepen awareness within the Muslim community and encourage lasting partnerships in the work of reconciliation.

Canadians are also being urged to wear orange and engage in learning about Indigenous history, leading up to the September 30 National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
