MAC honours Shaikh Ahmad Kutty with Lifetime Achievement Award for five decades of service

Toronto, ON – May 17, 2025 – The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) has presented Shaikh Ahmad Kutty with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his remarkable 50 years of dedicated service to the Muslim community both in Canada and globally. While Shaikh Kutty was unable to attend, his wife, Zuhra Kutty, and daughter, Sajidah Kutty, were present to graciously accept the prestigious award on his behalf.

Shaikh Ahmad Kutty stands as a towering intellectual figure, highly respected in Canada and on the international stage. Through his insightful writings and well-reasoned fatwas (Islamic rulings), many of which are accessible on his website, askthescholar.com, he has consistently provided invaluable guidance to Muslims and effectively clarified misconceptions surrounding Islam.

His commitment to offering practical answers to the complexities of modern life is evident in his most recent publication, “What & Why - The Most Asked Questions about Islam.” This work serves as a testament to his enduring desire to make Islamic knowledge accessible and relevant.

About Shaikh Ahmad Kutty:

Ahmad Kutty’s foundational education in traditional Islamic sciences was completed at Islamiyya College in Kerala, India, and at the esteemed Islamic University of Madina Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia. He holds ijazahs (licenses/designations) as an ‘a’lim (knowledgeable scholar) and faqih (jurist) from both India and Saudi Arabia. His academic pursuits continued in Canada, where he earned his Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and undertook doctoral studies at McGill University in Montreal.

Over the past five decades, Shaikh Kutty has held significant leadership positions within the Canadian Muslim community. He has served as the Director of the Islamic Centre of Toronto and the Director of the Islamic Foundation of Toronto. Furthermore, his expertise was recognized through his membership on the Fiqh Council of North America.

Currently, Shaikh Kutty holds the position of resident scholar and senior lecturer at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, where he shares his profound knowledge in diverse fields, including Qur​'an and Hadith Sciences, Islamic Theology and Jurisprudence, and Islamic Ethics and Spirituality. His influential fatwas have been translated into multiple languages and are featured on prominent international platforms such as www.onislam.net, islamicity.com, islamophile.org, infad.usim.edu.my, and islam.ca. He is also actively involved in interfaith dialogues, seminars, and symposia, and serves as a trusted expert and resource in legal cases involving Islamic Law and Theology.

Shaikh Ahmad Kutty’s significant contributions have earned him a place among The 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World, a publication edited by renowned scholars Professor John Esposito and Professor Ibrahim Kalin of Georgetown University.
