Coalition Urges Canadian Parliament to Recognize Gaza Genocide

On September 4, 2025, a coalition of human rights, community, and faith organizations called on the Canadian Parliament to officially recognize Israeli actions in Gaza as genocide.

The appeal was made during a news conference on Parliament Hill.

The call for recognition comes amid growing international debate over the situation in Gaza.

"This is our call today: do not falter now; do not stand mute while a people are destroyed; words must become truth," said Taha Ghayyur, executive director of Justice for All Canada. 

"We demand, here on Parliament Hill, that members of Parliament pass a motion recognizing Gaza for what it is: a genocide."

While some countries and organizations have labeled the actions as genocide, others have refrained from making such declarations.

The Canadian government's position remains under scrutiny as it faces increasing pressure from advocacy groups and the international community.

The coalition's appeal is part of a broader movement advocating for stronger Canadian involvement in addressing human rights violations in Gaza.

They are calling for increased humanitarian aid, diplomatic intervention, and support for international legal efforts to ensure accountability.

As Parliament reconvenes, the coalition's message underscores the growing demand for Canada to take a more active role in responding to the crisis in Gaza.
