# Canadian ​faith ​leaders ​urge PM Carney to ​address Gaza ​crisis

A broad coalition of prominent Canadian faith leaders has sent a joint letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, urging his government to take a stronger stance on the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. 

The letter, dated July 9, represents the collective voice of over 7,000 Canadian clergy and was initiated by the [Canadian Council of Imams](https://canadiancouncilofimams.com/2025/07/09/jointletter/?ref=iqra.ca), a non-profit organization that unites Islamic religious leaders across the country.

Signatories to this significant appeal include:

- Mennonite Central Committee Canada
- The Muslim Association of Canada
- Islamic Institute of Toronto
- Jerusalem Community Services of Ontario

The letter calls on Prime Minister Carney to "speak out against the catastrophic humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza." Key demands outlined in the letter include:

- A call for the immediate lifting of the blockade on humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
- A condemnation of the use of food as a weapon in the conflict.
- Support for calls for a permanent ceasefire.
