Renewal and Reflection
Faith leaders benefit deeply from retreats that offer time for renewal, leadership growth, and rest.
These moments of pause help them reconnect with their purpose and strengthen their spiritual resilience.
The Canadian Council of Imams (CCI) held its 2025 National Retreat from October 12–15, 2025, in partnership with Human Concern International (HCI).
The gathering took place at the breathtaking Keltic Lodge along Nova Scotia’s famous Cabot Trail, surrounded by stunning coastal and mountain views — the perfect setting for reflection and fellowship.
Governance and Growth
This year’s retreat came at a defining moment for CCI.
Imams from across Canada gathered to discuss the Council’s evolving governance structure and its mission to better serve and support members.
Collaborative sessions explored the future of the Imamate, emphasizing professional development and the importance of collective well-being.
Professional Development and Well-Being
A major focus of the retreat was professional development — helping Imams enhance their leadership skills and address challenges in their demanding roles.
One highlight was the session “Coping with Burnout: Self-Care & Resilience,” which underscored the need for balance in ministry.
As Imams often give selflessly, participants were reminded:
“When you say ‘yes’ to others, make sure you’re not saying ‘no’ to yourself.”
Sustaining the well-being of Imams ensures that they can continue guiding their communities with strength, wisdom, and compassion.

Building Brotherhood
Beyond workshops and meetings, the retreat fostered strong bonds of brotherhood.
Through open conversations, outdoor activities, and shared reflection, participants built lasting connections and explored new ways to collaborate in serving Canada’s growing Muslim community.

A Memorable Meeting
A highlight of the retreat was meeting Dr. Jamal Badawi, the renowned Canadian Muslim scholar and humanitarian.
Now in his late 80s, Dr. Badawi continues to inspire generations through his lifelong dedication to Islamic learning and service.
For many, including myself, meeting him was a moment of deep gratitude and reflection.
Looking Ahead
This historic retreat marked a milestone for CCI.
It addressed current challenges facing Imams and laid the groundwork for stronger governance, greater collaboration, and renewed purpose.
The spirit of this gathering is best captured in its guiding theme:
“Serving Those Who Serve.”
