As a Muslim community, it is important to take advantage of the Security Infrastructure Program (#SIP) to ensure our safety and protection against hate-motivated crimes. The program offers funding for security infrastructure improvements for places of worship, private educational institutions, and community centers.

To be eligible, private, not-for-profit organizations that are at risk of being victimized by hate-motivated crime can apply for funding.

This can be used for security equipment such as doors, windows, cameras, alarm systems, fencing, lighting, minor renovations to enhance security, and basic training for staff to respond to a hate-motivated crime.

It is important for Muslim communities to take advantage of this program by applying for funding and making necessary security improvements to protect against hate-motivated crimes.

We can also advocate for the SIP to become rebate-based, where approved facilities can make necessary changes before getting a rebate for the money they spent.

Hate-motivated crimes are attacks on fundamental rights and freedoms and on Canadian values of respect, equality, and inclusion. Let us work together to protect ourselves and our communities.
