# Muslim Philanthropy in a Canadian Context

Emmanuel College’s Centre for Religion and Its Contexts, in partnership with the *Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society*, is hosting the **[Muslim Philanthropy in a Canadian Context Symposium](https://www.emmanuel.utoronto.ca/the-centre-for-religion-and-its-contexts/muslim-philanthropy-in-a-canadian-context/?ref=iqra.ca)** on Saturday, March 27, 10:30 a.m.–4 p.m. EDT. 

This symposium addresses a simple, yet underexplored, question: How is Muslim philanthropy developing in a secular liberal democracy such as Canada? The symposium will be a pioneering event bringing together scholars from a variety of disciplines and practitioners working in the non-profit/charitable sector.

Funded in part by a grant from the [*Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society*](https://iupress.org/journals/jmpcs/?ref=iqra.ca), which is a bi-annual, peer reviewed, open access journal published by the [Center on Muslim Philanthropy](https://muslimphilanthropy.com/default.aspx?ref=iqra.ca) in partnership with [Indiana University Press](https://iupress.org/journals/jmpcs/?ref=iqra.ca), [Lake Institute on Faith & Giving](https://philanthropy.iupui.edu/institutes/lake-institute/index.html?ref=iqra.ca), [World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists](https://thewcmp.org/?ref=iqra.ca), [International Institute of Islamic Thought](https://iiit.org/en/home/?ref=iqra.ca), and the [Lilly Family School of Philanthropy](https://philanthropy.iupui.edu/about/index.html?ref=iqra.ca)at Indiana University.
