(October 28, 2011) – Faith communities throughout Canada believe they have a moral responsibility to address global warming.

From Sunday October 23 to Monday October 24, faith leaders, politicians and members of the public gathered in Ottawa to engage in a panel discussion and national dialogue on climate change.

The meeting released a letter, titled the *Canadian Interfaith Call for Leadership and Action on Climate Change* signed by representatives of Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Baha’i and ecumenical groups, according to a news release from the [Canadian Council of Churches](http://www.councilofchurches.ca/communications/canadian%5Finterfaith%5Fcall%5Fre%5Fclimate%5Fchange.pdf?ref=iqra.ca), which organized the event.

This is among the first time that such a broad interfaith effort has been undertaken inCanada.

Responding to the *Canadian Interfaith Call for Leadership and Action on Climate Change*, participants discussed climate change as the root of a spiritual crisis, the values necessary for a sustainable economy, and the challenge of climate justice.
